If you haven’t already make a professional email for applying to scholarships and colleges.

Do: JennySmith@gmail.com

Don’t: CutiePatootie@gmail.com

Your professional email should be for professional needs ONLY. Do not use it for coupons, free trials or social media. When you are on social media NEVER post your professional email because that will create a link to your page.

For example: if someone tweets you asking for your PayPal info on Twitter because they want to send you $20 and you respond with your professional email, you have now made it much easier for professionals that you’ve been in contact with to find your personal social media accounts. Most people also have their Instagram linked to their twitter account. A prospective admissions counselor or scholarship committee member who searches for your email will now see what you are like personally. First impressions matter. Keep your personal email and social accounts separate from your professional email and accounts.
